*sighs*
Asked my dad for money for tutoring expenses this evening.

I know he loves me and I know he doesn't mean it, but gosh-- he always makes me feel like dirt whenever I ask him for money. -_-;;

In the end, I ended up telling him that the amount I needed was only half of what it really was; will just bite the bullet and pay for the other half. *sighs*

In other news, my tutor today was ten kinds of awesome. :> Having someone go one-on-one with you is really great. ^_^

Oh, I know how you feel. I feel horrible asking my parents for any money of any sort because it just feels...well, it makes me feel guilty for some strange reason and I could never figure out why.

And yay, your tutor was good. :O I remember my first experience in learning Japanese when I was...5-6ish. I had to memorize this table:

あいうえお
かきくけこ
さしすせそ
たちつてと
なにぬねの
はひふへほ
まみむめも
や ゆ よ
らりるれろ
わゐゑをん

Then write it, then do the same with katakana. Mindnumbing. x_x And that is the reason why I will never go back to the Japanese system of teaching. It killed my brain. ;~;

You...can't? *blinks* Let me fix that.

It just says a-i-u-e-o, then it follows that pattern from k all the way to r with the irregulars of y and w in here too. XD

Your browser may not support Japanese texts, or as of the moment it is turned off. I think you can open it through going to VIEW > CHARACTER ENCODING > JAPANESE (Shift_JIS), in case you're interested in trying. :) It might vary for the MSIE (I'm using Firefox) but I think it's basically the same. (Sorry, I can't open our MSIE browser, my brother just deleted the shortcut and I'm to lazy to search for it. ^^)

Sorry for the intrusion.

In any case, good luck with your tutoring! Learning a new language is always tough, but I'm very sure you can do it. Just not as fast as your prof believes (because no one can learn Katakana and Hiragana that fast unless the linguistic part of their brain managed to unlock secrets...) but you can do it~!

*hugs* My Dad is really money-conscious too. Even as a kid, if I borrowed money off him, he'd charge me interest. I know in his case, it was to teach me responsibility (HAH!).
I remember having to beg him for $100 to pay the bills when I first came to Queensland, and he sent it to me. He also sent me a three page letter lecture on 'the rules of being a poor person'. It's always stuck with me, because Dad does NOT write letters, and he does NOT make phone calls because he is NOT a social person. The only time other than this that he's written to me has been postcards to me and my sister whenever he went to England.
Apparently when Dad was my age and lived in Queensland, he used to go to the public pool with his mates and swim in the diving pool and pick up the change that had fallen out of people's pockets, then he and a friend would buy a meat pie and split it between them.

Did you get that sort of a lecture?

Oh God. ;_;

That's so depressing... if my dad told me a story like that, I think I'd cry.

No, he didn't. He did the math in front of me (per hour x how many days i wanted = XX amount, which ended up quite big), and kinda frowned a little and looked worried. ;_;

I was like, "I can pay for half", and he said "Well, what is it really?" and I said "No, I'll pay for half", and then that was that. -_-

*hughugs* Dads are funny creatures. I think they mean well, but they are sometimes too practical when they should be more sensitive.
