X-Men painting + series pimp! (mild spoilers for Ultimate X-Men 1-69)
I picked up Ultimate X-Men via bittorrent last week, and I really, really found myself enjoying it. So much so, that during my monthly trip to the comic store, I bought several of the latest issues and gorged myself on the pretties. XD

I've never been in the fandom, but I was a fan of the comics way back in the old days. (I got my hands on X-Men no. 1 when it first hit the shelves, lol!) This was, of course, waaaay back in the early nineties when I was just a snot-nosed kid reading comics over my big brother's shoulder.

In any case, I do urge my f-list to give Ultimate X-Men a shot. It's got sex, scandal, and of course, homosexuality. (I'm currently in love with Marvel for making Piotr (Collosus) gay. And Northstar, of course, but he'd always been gay-- even in the original Alpha Flight comics.)

It's an Alternate Universe type of deal, featuring all the X-Men we know and love as barely-legal teens (heck, Bobby's only 15). Some of them, like Scott, haven't changed much from the original personalities (albeit with a serious deficiency in dealing with the opposite sex). Still, the core of his boy scout personality remains intact.

On the other hand, Jean Grey is pretty different from her original series' personae. I don't want to spoil, but yeah. (Slut much? I love it.) XD

And of course, the lovely little twist on the big metal guy's personality. Piotr, outing himself to his team? A 16 year-old Nightcrawler unable to cope with his gay teammate? Wolverine, unable to return Piotr's affections?

What, oh what, will happen next?? XDDD

He's only supposed to be 18, but he's still incredibly well-built. And in one of the arcs, he had a goatee. :9 LOVE. LOVE. LOVE.

Thanks to you and this post I've been overworking my computer downloading the latest volumes (I know, bad me, but I'm going to buy them later anyway) I've also asked for the anthologies for my birthday this month. Thanks for a new/renewed addiction! ^_^

Ultimate X-Men is definitely an interesting experience. I remember my guy friend who read the book was plenty pissed that they made Piotr gay. haha, but he got over it pretty quick and Piotr, I think, became a character he liked...? I don't remember. I know Brian K. Vaughn had a long run as writer on the series and if it's something Vaughn does well, it's clever dialoge, solid story telling, and The GAY like, woah. But it's a really good book. I'm like you. I haven't seen an X-men book since the nineties. lol

It's only in the Ultimate-verse, so it's easy to have missed it. In the latest issues he goes on a date to X-Factor's Homecoming dance with Northstar!!!

Oooh, now I'm very interested in it...it's been ages since I've been in the whole "american" comics but I still have all the old school stuff stashed away somewhere...*interest is very piqued* Will have to check it out when I can...your description leaves much to drool over lust after look forward to ^_~

Hmmm, was having problems with the piratebay one so am actually downloading it from bushtorrents (of all places) oh well, as long as I get it and can squee over it and then need to find everything up to 72...good thing people at work are comic fans...lucky! one of them got to go the ComiCon...I actually have wanted to try to go at least once...

i also have something else for you to try-- the Authority. it's an awesome, awesome series, and two of the main superhero dudes are gay. and MARRIED. and have an adopted daughter.

it's awesome. i don't have the start of it, but i do have the end, and i'll see about uploading it for you. (no one's seeding the friggin' torrent so it took me ages to DL it. i'll just zip it for you.):D

oh yes yes! please do! so cool that they are married and all! And I've started reading Ultimate! Am liking it already! And wow, the style is, I think, visually strong...*has urge to rub against Cyclops* o_O *cough* anyhoo, have only gotten to #5...so still a loooooong way to go...I'll get to more this weekend...but as it is the official "parent's birthday weekend" I'll see how far I'm able to go in reading...

A few more thoughts:
interesting to see Jean with such short hair...
Heh, Bobby with his bandana over his Iceman self...^_^
Beast's reaction to his hair turning blue! (the expression on his face!)
Cyclops & Xavier's odd trust/kinda don't trust relationship...and after reading the fics you rec'd Wow! Can see how the whole "Xavier brainwashed them" could work.

Ok! It's getting a tad late and I'm still trying to catch up on flist, read more Ultimate if possible, and find the time to keep working on revamping my (completely stagnant) website...

i love the cyclops/xavier interaction here because scott's not just blindly following him, and xavier's actually portrayed as imperfect and human. XD
