Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah (Ze Musical)

So. I've been a fan of the Filipino (superhero) comic Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah for a while now, but somehow I'd never found the time to actually catch one of its musicals. I did catch the movie that came out last December, though, and I thought it was a pretty decent rendition. When I heard that they were running the musicals yet again this month, I realized that I *had* to watch it. I went with Tet and Rae and much fun was had by all, and the cast was even kind enough to stay by the doors to pose for pictures and sign autographs. *squee* (Pictures behind the cut).

For the uninitiated, Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah is a local comic about a young gay man (Ada) who owns a beauty parlor in the province. He becomes the gorgeous (and busty) Super Heroine Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah when he swallows a magical stone (pink and phallical, no less XD), and saves the general populace from random evil stuff. His love interest is Dodong, a young provincial man who tends his family's store (and has a crush on Ada's female alter-ego, Zsa Zsa).

The comic itself is already hilarious, but the musical-- with the sights, sounds, and costumes-- just makes it even better. :D And of course, the ending is lovely and poignant because when Ada eventually loses the stone (as well as his power to change into a woman), Dodong loves him anyway.

The final kiss between Ada and Dodong wasn't shown in the comic or the movie, so you can imagine that I went /absolutely/ NUTS when they kissed in the musical. :3 And it helped that the part of Dodong was played by a young man who is a dead ringer for Takuma Sugawara wtf. *_______*

In any case, you can read more about Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zsazsa_Zaturnnah

Tet with a deathgrip on Janvier Daily, the guy who plays Dodong.

Rae with Eula Valdes (Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah, the most beautiful woman I have ever seen up close) and Tuxqs Rutaquio (Ada, who is my role-model because he kicks so much ass just by being himself).

*hugs tight* Ticket prices were hard on the pocket book and the schedule was even tougher to accommodate... *weeps with you*

Hopefully they'll show it again? ;__________;

But I can share my Musical CD with you as soon as I finish ripping it! :D (It should be in record bars by next month, but they were selling advanced copies at the show).

heh. i was embarassingly excited throughout the whole thing...

the movie was actually pretty well done-- the editing was decent and the actors were really into it, but of course the CG was... hilarious because it was so bad? (and rustom padilla is extremely pretty. *_*)

ben used to be pretty homophobic but he eventually developed a tolerance for it. he now sits through every gay movie i beg him to see with me, with the clause that i must cover his eyes whenever the couple's about to kiss.

Yay! *glomphugs* I may add Tagalog to my list of languages to learn, one day. Along with Japanese, Latin, Auslan (Australian Sign Language) and Korean. It may take several lifetimes, but I do so love languages!

lol! it'd actually be pretty simple to learn, as there isn't a lot of memory work involved. we've almost got exactly the same alphabet as the english one, and single words mean multiple things. the meaning changes with the way you say it, but the spelling is exactly the same. XD

(i also bought you the zsazsa graphic novel today, which i will include in the wedding package that i will mail in feb. XD if the dvd comes out by this time, i will include it, but i'm definitely sending you the comic + the musical cd.) :3

Ooh, you're the best! *glomphugs*

So is it all about inflection, like Chinese? Lachlan's got a workmate who's engaged to a Chinese girl, and he was telling me about all the trouble he was having trying to learn the language so that he could formally greet her parents.

Someone said to me that Japanese was the same, but I haven't noticed that - the words that mean different things seem to only change with the context and/or the kanji used.

*giggles and hugs* I just want to share the love! This is one of the best things ever to come out of the studios here, and it needs to be pimped. XD

I'm not sure, because I can't speak/read Chinese. I will say that it's got a lot to do with context, as the same word spelt but said in a different way could mean entirely different things.

Sample:

tubo = sugar cane, pipe, profit
spelling is the same for all three, but it's said (tuboh, ,tooboh, toobo) respectively. XD

Language is so interesting! I might learn Welsh one day, too. That's got to be the most confusing language in the world!

Given that I am one of the hugest fans of musicals and gender bending that ever was, I really want to see this! O_O;

I looked it up on wikipedia and apparently there is a movie now. I subsequently looked it up on youtube and found the trailer. It looks so funny and cracked out!

Do you know of a place I could download even the movie? (subtitles will be preferable, but I'll take what I can get :D) Heck, if I lived in the Phillipines, I'd likely see it even if I didn't speak fillipino. (I'm guessing that's the language the musical is done in)

Thanks for posting about what looks like an awesome musical! I totally just disturbed my housemates by telling them the plot of ZsaZsa and sending them the movie trailer. Life is good!

*hugs hugs* The movie hasn't come out on DVD yet because they only recently stopped showing it in theaters. I will definitely rip and share when it comes out, though!

And I finished ripping the cds and I'm going to post them tonight. I will share the Zsa Zsa love! XD I'm so pleased that foreign fans are falling in love with the plot/story too. :3

*giggles* it says on the programme that he's a showbiz newcomer, so i don't think he's actually been in anything aside from this. he's the understudy for the first musical's dodong... :)

there are still four more shows on saturday and sunday, though! :D i bought another pair of tickets earlier this week, lol. (the only available show they had left was the saturday 3pm.) ;______;

(i'm hoping they'll add a few more shows. if they do, you should definitely try to watch. :3 dodong has his shirt off 50% of the time he's on stage... *drool*) XDDD
